BITS thrives in the world of Windows-based business computing, but we’re also avid Mac users that rely daily on our iPhones and iPads to get things done. So we were excited to watch the Apple product launch keynote this morning to see what the giant of Cupertino had up its sleeve.

iPhone 11

The new iPhones have been unveiled!  All 3 of the new iPhone 11 models include substantial improvements to the camera system.  Dramatically improved low-light shots, 4K 60fps video from ALL cameras, more video editing features, and enhanced Portrait Mode are available on all of the new iPhone 11 models.

But the new iPhone 11 Pro models will have a THIRD rear-facing telephoto camera in addition to the wide and ultra-wide angle cameras that really open up your options for stunning imagery along with a Super Retina XDR display.

The new iPhones will also sport the fastest CPU and GPU of any smartphone ever while still adding hours of extra battery life over last year’s models.  The new A13 Bionic chip runs a multi-core 64bit architecture which includes a neural engine with machine learning accelerators to enable the most advanced processing ever on a mobile device.  All while running up to 40% more efficiently than previous iPhones!

Apple also announced a new sound field technology that supposedly makes iPhone audio sound immersive, full, and spacious.  This new sound system even supports Dolby Atmos!  We’ll have to hear that in person to believe it…

All of these new features – and many more – will be available September 20th with pre-orders starting now.  Prices range from $699 to $1099 which can now be paid in monthly installments.  You can also get deep discounts with Apple’s Trade-In program.

iPad + iPadOS

The new standard issue iPad now has a larger 10.2” screen, works with Apple Pencil, keyboards, and even some USB devices such as flash drives.  And for the first time, the iPad will now have its very own operating system separate from iOS.  The new iPadOS includes many new iPad-specific features that really set it apart from the phones.

Apple Watch

Coming to a wrist near you is the new Series 5 lineup of Apple Watches!  There were a number of new features announced for the latest Apple Watch, but probably the most noteworthy is that the screen never turns off!  Apple engineers have developed a new low power OLED display system that just dims and drops the refresh rate to 1Hz.  This allows the wearer to always see their watch face and notifications while still providing 18 hours of battery life!

AppleTV+

Eager to shake up its content ecosystem and compete with the likes of Disney and Netflix, Apple has announced their new streaming service.  It will become available on November 1st and will cost $4.99/mo for a family subscription.  Better yet, all new Apple hardware devices will come with 1 year of AppleTV+ for free!

Apple Arcade

Fresh games from Capcom, Konami, and more are hitting the App Store!  And you can play them all as much as you want for $4.99/mo on all of your family devices!  Pretty rad!

There were many other details mentioned in the keynote that we were unable to cram into this blog post, so head on over to Apple.com if you’d like to learn more.
